U.S. May Impose Additional Tariffs On Mexico Until The Immigration Crisis At The Southern Border Is Improved

On May 30, President Trump sent a few messages via Twitter and the White House issued a statement indicating that President Trump will use his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers “to impose a 5% Tariff on all goods imported into the United States from Mexico, until such time as the illegal migration crisis is alleviated by actions taken by Mexico”.

If Mexico does not take the proper actions to “substantially stop the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory”, tariffs will be increased to 10% on July 1, 15% on August 1, 20% on September 1, and 25% on October 1.  “Tariffs will remain at 25% until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory” and the immigration crisis at the southern border is significantly improved.  The entire White House statement can be accessed here:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/statement-president-regarding-emergency-measures-address-border-crisis/?utm_source=Arent+Fox+List&utm_campaign=e6fdcee0b1-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_31_08_47&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_3a013c8d3d-e6fdcee0b1-424290097&mc_cid=e6fdcee0b1&mc_eid=b0a501846f
